A Look Inside Sonrisa
Sonrisa is a development of 58 studio units built by the partnership of CFY Development and the Capitol Area Community Development Corporation (the non-profit arm of the Capitol Area Development Authority) at 14th and O streets. It's the first project completed under Governor Gavin Newsom's executive order prioritizing affordable housing development on excess, state-owned sites. It is also Sacramento's first ground-up cross-laminated timber (CLT) project.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
In keeping with safety precautions and social distancing due to COVID-19, CACDC and CFY Development held a virtual groundbreaking for Sonrisa on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 10:30 am. In-person attendance at the ceremony was limited to the project partners.
CLT installation
We’ve begun installing the Cross-laminated Timber (CLT). This is the first ground-up CLT project in Sacramento. CLT is being using for the horizontal components (i.e. 1st fl. ceiling/2nd fl. floor, and so forth). CLT is a mass timber product that sequesters carbon in solid form and keeps it from entering the atmosphere as CO2. CLT stores more carbon than many alternative non‐wood building materials.
